Planning for... Anxiety?

By Cait Zarro

I’m a planner. Always have been and probably always will be. Much of the time this trait serves me well. I’m usually prepared for events, emergencies, what have you. I carry a giant purse with everything one could possibly need inside, my calendar has dates blocked off and planned for months, I know what I’m serving at holiday dinners months in advance… you get the picture.

What I’m finding is that sometimes being a planner becomes being a worrier; Somebody who is often anxiety-ing (thanks William Glasser). It’s not a good look. When you plan for everything, you are always looking ahead. Creating scenarios, hashing out plans, preparing for the best and worst. What you (i.e. ME) are doing is missing out on the present. It’s a journey folks. Sometimes it is best perhaps, to leave the plans to someone else and just go with the journey. It’s an awful lot less anxiety provoking to be blissfully unaware. Just a thought…
