Resolutions Instead of Regrets
How many times have we made a New Years Resolution only to be disappointed a few months (nee, days!) later by our “failures”. The tradition of a New Years Resolution has become much of a joke in our society. You see, we set unattainable goals and then are habitually disappointed. What a silly habit!
Me? I’m jumping on the bandwagon and setting some goals but they need to be ATTAINABLE! No sense in disappointing oneself. My original goal was to “get more organized”. Great. Now what?
Break your overall goal into small, achievable objectives that move you toward that larger overall goal. The more you achieve, the better you feel (winning!). Using my resolution as an example, I started with my closet. If it hasn’t been worn in the past 2 years, it’s out. Donate, consign, whatever. You should see the purge going on in there! Next, I’m tackling my kitchen. Cabinet by cabinet- ONE AT A TIME. My tupperware cabinet is now a thing of beauty.
You see the pattern? Small, attainable, measurable objectives=less chance for that sinking feeling of failure. Same goes for any other goal. Want to save money? Start small. $5 per month. Want to get in shape? Go for a walk 1x per week. Little steps add up and can make all the difference.
Happy New Year!
