Roses 2In working with clients over the years I’m always finding myself encouraging people to prioritize, relax, and take time to take care of themselves. I find these things to be incredibly important in everyone’s lives and have always made the effort to take my own advice, even when it is easier said than done.  Never has self-care been as paramount to my mental health than it is now  that I have become a new mom. When I have a moment to myself, the over-achiever in me wants to clean the house, answer emails, cook, exercise, work, sleep, pay bills, do laundry, and usually do more than one of these at once.  I’m learning though, that many of these things can wait.  What can’t wait is my sanity!

So, I take a step back when I can, and prioritize- what is the most important task right now?    I complete the task, breathe, and enjoy a moment of self care and bask in gratitude for that moment.  Have you recently sat with a hot cup of coffee and really savored it?  It’s pretty great when I allow myself to be mindful and present in that moment.  The day becomes a series of moments and suddenly much more manageable (and enjoyable).  Now if you will excuse me, I’m off to take care of me for a few minutes- hope you’ll do the same!
