As I’m going through so many changes in my life lately I am finding that to feel good, I am needing to pay attention to many different areas in my life equally. I find that I am truly taking the advice I have given clients for years and what do you know? It works! When you think of your “wellness”, what comes to mind? For me (now) it’s a compilation of several things.

Occupational Wellness: Am I feeling fulfilled in my daily tasks/responsibilities? Do I have a sense of purpose? Physical Wellness: Am I getting enough exercise? How is my diet? Have I taken care of all my checkups with my doctors? Environmental Wellness: Am I comfortable where I’m living? Does my space feel like mine? Social Wellness: Am I getting out of the house enough? Am I limiting my contact with people who trigger me? Am I setting boundaries? Intellectual Wellness: Am I feeling challenged? Am I using my skills? When was the last time I learned something new? Financial Wellness: Am I sticking to my budget? Spiritual Wellness: Have I talked to my higher power lately? Have I been feeling mindful? Meditation? Emotional Wellness: Have I checked in with my supports? Am I feeding depression or am I feeding wellness with my actions? Am I engaging in things that make ME happy?

When I look at myself (or my clients) as a whole person and take into account all of these basic needs, I find I’m taking better care of myself (or them!). What a simple concept but something that is so easily tossed by the wayside when life and responsibilies get in the way. Take a minute for self reflection. Self care=happy people. 🙂
